Family Friday - Holiday Weekend

This weekend will consist of spending a lot of time packing and finishing up details on the house. I have a BAZILLION phone calls to make!

My poor husband is exhausted. He's been going NON STOP and can barely walk on his ankles and knees. Too Too Much! I'll be so glad when we're settled.

I'm excited to spend time with family and friends for Memorial Day. The weather looks PERFECT!

It's definitely a park day! So, amidst, working, exercising, cleaning, packing, paying bills, phone calls and grocery shopping, I need to fit in some PLAY TIME - and so do you.

Don't forget to make QUALITY time with your little ones (or your big one) today. Quality time is so important and I notice a huge difference in Hannah's (and Matt's haha) behavior when I give her my undivided attention at points throughout the day.

I must move on to the next thing now (as I've been up since 5:30 and will crash hard around 2pm) so I leave you with a picture from a Memorial Day's past. Hope yours is great!

Thankful Thursday - Thump Thump Thump

Ahhh! Today I'm so thankful I got to hear that beautiful little heart beating inside me. 156 beats of pure joy per minute. I really could listen to it all day.

I was so glad we could hear it as soon as he put the doppler on my abdomen - right where I usually feel movement from the baby. Reassuring.

I had Hannah with me and she cracks me up. When she heard the heart beat, she gasped and the doctor looked at her. She said, "I think I'm going to cry!" The doctor said, "Did she just say she's going to cry?" I just shrugged and said, "I guess she's been around my emotions too much."

It's interesting to have your daughter with you while you pee in a cup. She was thoroughly disgusted watching the nurse test it as well.

Walking out of the office I started to feel misty eyed. I mean, there's really a little baby in there. Squirming around. Our baby. It's more than my butt just growing at an astounding rate! I can't wait to know what it is!!! Most are saying BOY, and I think it's probably a boy too - though I haven't had any of my "famous" dreams to give me a solid opinion. We'll see!

And can I just say - WHAT IS UP WITH THE VEINS IN MY HANDS????

I'm also thankful that our new house is ALMOST ALMOST ALMOST finished being painted. I forget what my husband looks like!

I almost forgot - I'm also thankful that Hannah's knees are ok. She woke up two days ago and couldn't walk. I was so afraid she was showing symptoms of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (which is what I have that causes all of my eye problems). Luckily she seemed to recover quickly and it hasn't happened again. I pray that was the end of it and that she over worked it the day before and slept on it wrong.

Wellness Wednesday - Milestone

I'm officially finished with my first trimester! Woo hoo! It's gone by fast. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I can't WAIT to hear the heart beat again. I CAN wait to get on the scale. Blech.

I'm feeling huge. I'm definitely showing much earlier than I did with Hannah - and no matter what anyone tells me, I'm starting to feel movement in there. I felt Hannah move at 14 weeks and I'm well aware of what gas feels like.

Family Friday - Missing Family Time

I'm overwhelmed. We've (and by "WE" I mean - not me) been painting the new house and just getting so much done. I can't remember anything! I really think that things are going more smoothly than most home sales/moves, it's just all so much to keep track of.

Every time I think I'm feeling better, I get hit again with nausea. The tiredness has never gone away which is fine. Luckily, Hannah loves napping together these days, so I'm getting enough sleep, but I'm not getting anything done around here!

I'm sorry for my sporadic blogs which have a huge lack of flow. Like I said, I'm having time putting my thoughts together.

All this to say - I'm missing my family time! I'm used to having Matt come home from work and take over. He helps me with dinner, plays with Hannah and puts her to bed (I'm spoiled). He's been getting up at 5:30am working all day and then working at the house. He's still trying to help me out, but he's only one person! I miss our talk time. We usually go to bed at the same time and talk. Now, I'm passed out before he gets home and he's gone before I wake up!

I can't complain, out life is so good. I'm just remembering why I said we'd never move again when we bought THIS house! I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Scrumptious Saturday - Cake

Before I give you the recipe, I have to tell you a scrumptious story.

Yesterday - I had the opportunity to have a delightful lunch at Applebees at  the Mills with my sister,  6 of my beautiful cousins, and 9 of our children. How often do you get to do stuff like that with extended family??? I'm glad we're still close. The pictures of my cousins below are 5 years old - but still cool.

On another note, I made my first "from scratch" cupcakes/cake. Had I not overfilled my cupcake tins (like I ALWAYS DO) they would have been perfect. After tasting them, Matt told me I'm not allowed to use a box mix anymore. I couldn't believe how EASY it was!

Here is the very simple recipe.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter (the original recipe calls for shortening - ick)
  • 1 cup milk (I used almond milk)
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Add butter, milk, and vanilla.
  4. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Batter is thick.
  5. Add eggs and beat 30 seconds more.
  6. Bake in greased 9x13 pan for 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

You can find the original recipe here.

Family Friday - Memories

Here's a picture of my dad's parents. Isn't my grandma beautiful? My grandfather dapper? Well, I say dapper, but really, rumor has it that he used to wear windshield wipers on his glasses - which is precisely why we love him as much as we do - here on earth or up in heaven.

I wish I had taken a picture of it...but in my grandma's family room, 3 ENTIRE WALLS we're COMPLETELY covered with photographs. Baby pictures, graduation pictures, family, pictures etc of her parents, kids, her 11 grandkids,  8 grandkids in-law, 12 great-grandkids and on and on and on (and of course my Aunt Patty's nursing picture - a family favorite.)

Since she has moved into her apartment and doesn't have room for these pictures, we thought it might be nice to put the photographs into an album. I had to do some handiwork, but they all fit into one album.

On those walls, so many years, so many generations, and so many memories. Where has the time gone? I sat and untaped baby pictures of myself, my siblings, and my cousins. Pictures of us that were TAKEN in the very house we're moving our family back into. Surreal.

Hannah's going to sleep where I slept, eat where I ate, take baths where I bathed, ride her bike where I rode mine...I love it.

As much as I've been able to set my emotions aside, there's something sad about it all. The pictures are gone off of the walls. We won't have all the cousins together for Christmas dinner there with grandma's homemade raviolis and stuffed artichokes (my favorites). I don't know. It's almost like, for a time, those memories were graspable, but now they have turned to smoke.

Luckily, grandma is thoroughly enjoying herself in her new home, having delicious meals made for her and contemplating Wii bowling. It's so hard to catch her on the phone these days - she's a social butterfly.

But, tonight I'm reminded to have no regrets, to make the most of every moment and find joy in every situation - which means it's time to play Candy Land.

Money and Mother's Day Monday

Money? What's money!?

Money is like water flowing through our fingers these days!

Between eating out too much, clothes shopping (oops), medical bills, moving expenses, car woes, and gift-buying holidays - I'm afraid to do our budget - which is on my to-do list for today.

I'm overwhelmed.

We've got (I hope) a plumber coming today to fix 2 minor (1 nonexistent in my opinion) issues after our home inspection.

Tomorrow - we have our dye test and Occupancy Inspection at 10am. I hope it all goes well.

So - our house needs cleaned. It's a mess. I just haven't had the motivation, wellness, or desire to cook or clean - which is sad for my family who is used to lots of cooking. They're sweet though, they don't complain!

I have SO MUCH work work to do and have to be at Nexus at 2pm.

I have to go to the bank, grocery shop, and switch out Hannah's summer/winter clothes.

You can see how jumbled my brain is by reading this post!!!

Ah well, money makes the world go 'round I guess. It's just frustrating to not be able to estimate how much we're going to spend and when.

All that said: I had a lovely Mother's Day. I am such a blessed mommy. Matt and Hannah bought my some new (better fitting with my growing belly and butt) workout clothes and the stainless steel measuring cups I've been wanting. Then we went out and bought me some clothes and a Blizzard!

We also got to spend time with out own lovely mother's as well. The sweetest of sweet.

That's all the randomness I have for today! I'll leave you with some photo's of Hannah's Mother's Day Program at school!

Update on the Baby

Sorry blog followers. You might be hearing about the munchkin in my belly a lot for a while. It's all-consuming.

Last Friday I had a standard procedure done that cause some great fear regarding the baby.

I ended up in the emergency room Sunday afternoon - hysterical that we were losing the baby.

Thank GOD after just a minute, the nurse found the heartbeat (170bpm) on the doppler - which usually doesn't even work before 10 weeks. I grabbed the nurses arm and burst into tears. She then lost the heartbeat because I attacked her - Sorry nurse.

We had an ultrasound done and the baby looked good. My body didn't appear to be miscarrying - but the ER doc didn't really know what he was doing. All said and done - my issues seemed to be coming from the "standard procedure" and not my little one inside.

Fast forward to today - after too much internet surfing.

I was in a panic. WHAT IF? WHAT IF? WHAT IF?

My lack of faith and abundance of fear got the best of me and I called the doctor to see if they would just check the heartbeat. The nurse was sweet as pie and told me to come in. She had a hard time getting a good read on the doppler because I'm only 10 weeks so she snuck me into ultrasound.

I can't believe how quickly the baby has grown. There it was, heartbeat thumping away at 164 and the little arms and legs moving around. Brings me to tears every time.

So, now I need to relax. Everything is fine. After 4 ultrasounds - EVERYTHING IS FINE :)

Check out my little pookie...
